In New Jersey, as well as many other states, there are certain breeds of dogs which may cause an increase in your premium or possibly make it difficult to find coverage for your homeowner’s insurance.  If you are planning on getting a dog, it may be a good idea to contact your local insurance agent like The Barclay Group to see if the breed you are thinking of getting will give you any issues when getting insured.

The following breeds are considered ‘dangerous’ by the CDC:

  • Pit Bulls
  • Rottweilers
  • German Sheppards
  • Husky Breeds
  • Malamutes
  • Doberman Pinschers
  • Chow Chows

We are not saying not to get one of the above breeds or saying all dogs in these breeds are dangerous. Please just keep this list in mind when planning on getting a dog and contact your insurance agent to make sure you don’t run into issues getting or keeping coverage.
